The Kowkash Project is located in northwestern Ontario and covers 125,430 hectares acquired through map staking. Situated within the underexplored Onaman–Tashota Greenstone Belt of the Eastern Wabigoon Subprovince, the project area is largely concealed by glacial overburden and exhibits low exploration maturity. Kowkash is considered prospective for orogenic and VHMS mineralisation styles, representing a compelling grassroots discovery opportunity within one of Ontario’s lesser-explored greenstone belts.
Location and Access
The Kowkash project is located east of Lake Nipigon in northcentral Ontario, approximately 50km northwest of Longlac and 15km west of Nakina. The project area is accessible a network of logging roads and is transected by the Canadian National Railway’s transcontinental main line, offering excellent infrastructure and logistical advantages for exploration activities.
Geology and Mineralisation
The Kowkash Project covers a portion of the Onaman-Tashota Greenstone Belt, located within the Eastern Wabigoon Subprovince of the Archean Superior Province. This underexplored greenstone belt consists of metavolcanic and metasedimentary sequences intruded by syn- to post-tectonic plutons. The project area is transected by major regional structures, including splays of the Tashota–Geraldton–Terrace Bay deformation zone, and is prospective for orogenic and volcanic hosted massive sulphide (VHMS) mineralisation, with potential for high-grade Au, Ag, Cu, and Zn. Historic mineralised occurrences, such as the Marshall Lake VHMS and Louanna orogenic showings, exhibit well-developed alteration systems and mineralisation, indicating a fertile geological environment.
Exploration History
The Kowkash Project is located in a region of relatively low exploration maturity. Limited modern geochemical or detailed geophysical surveys have been conducted to date, presenting a compelling opportunity for grassroots discovery within one of Ontario’s lesser-explored greenstone belts.
Summary of exploration activities conducted by Kenorland Minerals
Kenorland plans to compile and digitize all available historical datasets related to the project and initiate a first-pass, regional geochemical sampling program during the 2025 summer field season.
