The South Thompson Project covers 307,753 hectares of land located in Manitoba Mineral Exploration License (MEL) Zones A & B. The Project is located in the Thompson Nickel Belt, globally one of the top ten Ni producing districts with a total resource endowment of ~150Mt at 2.32% Ni. The prospective belt rocks are covered by Phanerozoic carbonate cover rocks at the Project. The regular periodicity and spacing of major nickel sulphide deposits throughout the exposed portions of the belt to the north highlight the potential for the discovery of additional major deposits beneath cover at an area of excellent infrastructure in a favorable jurisdiction.

Location and Access

The South Thompson Project is located 200km south of the town of Thompson, Manitoba, and 80km west of the town The Pas, Manitoba. The Project is accessible via provincial highways & rail with logging road access to much of the Project area. High voltage transmission lines run along the eastern portion of the Project. The town of The Pas offers basic infrastructure such as a regional airport, food, accommodation and core logging facilities.

Geology and Mineralisation

The South Thompson Project is located in the Paleoproterozoic Thompson Nickel Belt (TNB), which trends south from Thompson below Phanerozoic carbonate cover rocks at the Project area. Regional drilling has intersected ultramafic intrusive rocks and clastic sedimentary and iron formation rocks of the Ospwagan Group, the host stratigraphy to many of the nickel deposits in exposed portion of the belt to the north. Regional geophysical magnetic and conductivity datasets allow for definition of favourable magnetic trends and areas of structural folding. The Project is adjacent to the Minago and Williams Lake nickel sulphide projects, also below carbonate cover rocks, and the regional wide spaced drilling has indicated anomalous Ni assays and sulphide mineralisation in ultramafics within the Project area.

Exploration History

Three main historical exploration campaigns have been undertaken within the South Thompson Project. The Falconbridge campaign between 1991-2002 was the most significant, and geophysical and drilling exploration work was high quality. Amax and Cominco conducted the other major geophysical and drill programs between the 1960’s and early 1970’s, with work extending over the Project area. This resulted in discovery of the adjacent Minago deposit. A total of 337 drillholes have been historically completed within the Project area. Geophysical techniques have improved greatly in the last 50 years, and no meaningful project-scale exploration has occurred in the last 20 years. The combination of large gaps in drilling and lack of modern geophysical techniques over areas of this large project represent significant opportunity for discovery.

Summary of exploration activities conducted by Kenorland Minerals

Kenorland has digitized all historical drilling and geophysical exploration work that has been filed in assessment reports. Reprocessing and 3D modelling of geophysical surveys using modern techniques, including magnetic vector inversion, contextualized with all lithological and geochemical information from across the Project has generated several targets with excellent potential for nickel sulphide deposit discovery. Kenorland is currently conducting a VTEM survey at the South Thompson Project.
